About

I currently wear multiple hats across bio/ML/CS at Cradle.bio. These days I am generally interested in scientific ML, and specifically the application of ML to unsolved problems in biology!

I also hold an honorary lectureship at Imperial College London. In past lives I previously wore the same multitude of hats at Google X, and did my PhD at the University of Oxford.

In my work I’m probably best known for two things:

  1. Open source software; in particular in the JAX and PyTorch scientific ecosystems. See my software page and my GitHub page.

  2. Neural differential equations, which are one the new(-ish) techniques being applied to many advances in biology, physics, engineering, etc. My thesis is a textbook for the topic. See also my publications page.

When I’m not staring at code, I can usually be found solo travelling, doing martial arts, going ice skating, or going scuba diving. (Plus several other hobbies here and there.) Also hanging out with my cat.

I still do some academic work on the side; feel free to contact me with collaboration requests.

I have an active social media presence, most notably on Twitter and Reddit.

I currently live in Zürich.
